“Maintain the Integrity of the league” that’s what Wigan boss Steve Bruce and his players have been hearing for the whole last week. And to ‘maintain the integrity of the league’ they have to beat or get a result against Manchester United this Sunday evening.
Michael Ballack, Carvalho, and John Terry all have been urging Wigan players to defeat United. Carvalho even came up with the idea of a play-off match in a neutral city if United and Chelsea end up with same number of points after the 38th round match. Avram Grant believes Chelsea should be given the title for their style. Where’s that came from ? United are the better side to watch, have scored more goals, conceded less and have a superior goal difference.
But Steve Bruce and Wigan aren’t gonna lay down making it easy for United to grab all three points. He’s sent out the message : Expect No Favours. He said : “Everybody who knows me knows me better than that. What am I going to say to the team? ‘Just roll over and let Man United win’? That’s not going to happen. Make no mistake, we’ll be trying our utmost.”
Former United defender Gary Pallister also states that his former teammate is not going to make things easy for United.
” He’s got allegiances to Manchester United, it’s in his blood and he’s a big part of their history,” said Pallister.
“Sir Alex Ferguson brings players into the club who are winners - the likes of Bryan Robson - and Steve Bruce won’t be any different. He won’t want to lose this football game. United are one of, if not the best team in the world. They’ve got the financial clout to buy the best players in the world and I think if they’ve got their heads right for this game they’ll win.”
I guess I’ve gone too far with the all these crap Chelsea stuff. But how can you keep your mouth shut when some deluded players think that low of a manager? Steve Bruce, a former Manchester United player and captain, is now the manager of a team with his own plans. Manchester United never comes in between any of his plans.
Matt Le Tissier - Quote of the week from Sky Sports
I’ve never once heard a manager tell his team not too try too hard because he has a connection with the opposition team and he wants them to win something. Chelsea can be assured that Steve Bruce and Wigan will give it their best shot.
may be that will kick some sense in to the Avram Grant And His Team
Now. to the unites side of things:Sir Alex completely trusts his team to do what is necessary.
“It doesn’t matter what the Wigan players are saying or what the Chelsea players are saying. If we win our game, that’s it,” said Sir Alex at his pre-match press conference. You hope you get the breaks, you hope this, you hope that and you hope the next thing. You could wish for too many things. The important thing is to have trust in your players. I trust my players and I will let them get on with it.”
When asked, He also refused to pick out his turning points of the season He just said “There’s no point looking back at games we’ve won or games we’ve lost, we are where we are.” That sums it up. I personally believe United had a bad season comparing to the 2006-07 season.
Wigan haven’t won against united in the last 6 meetings.
Team news
Wigan Athletic : Steve Bruce could play a squad of full strength against United. No injury worries for him.
Manchester United : Rooney is a doubt. Bur he could be restricted to the role of a substitute and could get some practice before the Champions league Final at Moscow. Nemanja Vidic will return to the squad. Nani is suspended after his head butt against Lucas Neill last week, against Westham. (Saha is injured too.)
Players To Watch
Wigan Athletic : There’s one player in each team capable of having a blinder against United. Chris Kirkland who has been in stunning form lately could do some harm to United.
Manchester United : He scored his 30th league goal this season. Theres enough time for two more.
Take a look at this page from vitalfootball. It’s something a bit funny about Steve Bennet, who referees this game. One other noticeable thing - poll result of the ‘Who do would you LIKE to win on Sunday?’ poll.
We are only one win away from a yet another Premiership triumph. Make us proud, lads…… Come on….. The title is your for the taking. And good luck.
