“Maintain the Integrity of the league” that’s what Wigan boss Steve Bruce and his players have been hearing for the whole last week. And to ‘maintain the integrity of the league’ they have to beat or get a result against Manchester United this Sunday evening.

Michael Ballack, Carvalho, and John Terry all have been urging Wigan players to defeat United. Carvalho even came up with the idea of a play-off match in a neutral city if United and Chelsea end up with same number of points after the 38th round match. Avram Grant believes Chelsea should be given the title for their style. Where’s that came from ? United are the better side to watch, have scored more goals, conceded less and have a superior goal difference.

Steve BruceBut Steve Bruce and Wigan aren’t gonna lay down making it easy for United to grab all three points. He’s sent out the message : Expect No Favours. He said : “Everybody who knows me knows me better than that. What am I going to say to the team? ‘Just roll over and let Man United win’? That’s not going to happen. Make no mistake, we’ll be trying our utmost.”

Former United defender Gary Pallister also states that his former teammate is not going to make things easy for United.

” He’s got allegiances to Manchester United, it’s in his blood and he’s a big part of their history,” said Pallister.
“Sir Alex Ferguson brings players into the club who are winners - the likes of Bryan Robson - and Steve Bruce won’t be any different. He won’t want to lose this football game. United are one of, if not the best team in the world. They’ve got the financial clout to buy the best players in the world and I think if they’ve got their heads right for this game they’ll win.”

I guess I’ve gone too far with the all these crap Chelsea stuff. But how can you keep your mouth shut when some deluded players think that low of a manager? Steve Bruce, a former Manchester United player and captain, is now the manager of a team with his own plans. Manchester United never comes in between any of his plans.

Matt Le Tissier - Quote of the week from Sky Sports

I’ve never once heard a manager tell his team not too try too hard because he has a connection with the opposition team and he wants them to win something. Chelsea can be assured that Steve Bruce and Wigan will give it their best shot.

may be that will kick some sense in to the Avram Grant And His Team

Now. to the unites side of things:Sir Alex completely trusts his team to do what is necessary.

“It doesn’t matter what the Wigan players are saying or what the Chelsea players are saying. If we win our game, that’s it,” said Sir Alex at his pre-match press conference. You hope you get the breaks, you hope this, you hope that and you hope the next thing. You could wish for too many things. The important thing is to have trust in your players. I trust my players and I will let them get on with it.”

When asked, He also refused to pick out his turning points of the season He just said “There’s no point looking back at games we’ve won or games we’ve lost, we are where we are.” That sums it up. I personally believe United had a bad season comparing to the 2006-07 season.

Wigan haven’t won against united in the last 6 meetings.

Team news

Wigan Athletic : Steve Bruce could play a squad of full strength against United. No injury worries for him.

Manchester United : Rooney is a doubt. Bur he could be restricted to the role of a substitute and could get some practice before the Champions league Final at Moscow. Nemanja Vidic will return to the squad. Nani is suspended after his head butt against Lucas Neill last week, against Westham. (Saha is injured too.)

Players To Watch

Wigan Athletic : There’s one player in each team capable of having a blinder against United. Chris Kirkland who has been in stunning form lately could do some harm to United.

Manchester United : He scored his 30th league goal this season. Theres enough time for two more.

Take a look at this page from vitalfootball. It’s something a bit funny about Steve Bennet, who referees this game. One other noticeable thing - poll result of the ‘Who do would you LIKE to win on Sunday?’ poll.

We are only one win away from a yet another Premiership triumph. Make us proud, lads…… Come on….. The title is your for the taking. And good luck.

New Nike ad

Nike has produced a new ad. it’s about a boy getting noticed by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and ends up starring for Arsenal and Holland. The ad features stars like Rooney, Ronaldo, Fabregas, Ruud van Nistelrooy etc

It’s probably the best ad I’ve ever seen.

When the Whistle blows for Kickoff at Old Trafford this Saturday, Manchester United have the an opportunity to Turn the tables. Yet again. Chelsea re not in action untill Monday and a Win against Westham could put some Pressure on Chelsea and hope fully they will slip up again. They will play Newcastle United who have been on brilliant form lately.

Sir Alex shouldn’t have rotated his team against Chelsea last week. It cost us three valuable points and a chance to ensure the title with two games remaining. However United had responded with a win and brilliant overall display against Barcelona, winning and entering the Champions League final in 9 years. It was one of the best defensive yet interesting and breathtaking game ever.

Ofcourse the Reds are going in to the game with much confidence. But the recent results against Westham is sure to give some headache to Sir Alex. When Alan Curbishley took over at Westham, they were in relegation zone. And his first game was against United. He won it. and in the last day of the league Westham came to Old Trafford needing 3 point to survive and Carlos Tevez got it for them .You know the story. Even this season They won their home match agaist United 2 - 1. Alan Curbishley thinks Sir Alex wants atleast two more titles before he retires.

But he also insists that Hammers are capable of another upset :

“We’ll see what we’ve got left this week and will go there and give it our best shot.Last year was a different set of circumstances completely, perhaps they didn’t have too much to play for and we had everything to play for and perhaps it’s turned around now.

“I’ve said all along this season has been the most competitive Premier League I’ve been involved in at the top and the bottom. We’ve got our own situation to play for. We’ve got a big stage to play on and one or two people in my team will come out of that next week with a big experience from it.”

Owen Hargreaves believes that it’s all set for a sprint finish. He said this to Redview :

“The most important thing is we have the ability and the belief in each other to do it.We are all very confident that, even with the setback against Chelsea last week, we can win our final two games and clinch the title.

“There’s a great combination of qualities, The experience we have in the squad from Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Edwin van der Sar and Mikael Silvestre is vital; there’s also the young guns like Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez, Nani, Anderson - some of whom are chasing their first title. We’ve also got the most experienced manager in the business, a manager that has been in this situation on many occasions before. That gives everyone confidence.”

The same goes for Mikael Silvestre also.

“We were on the edge all night,” he said. “If Barcelona scored we had to get two goals, so we had to be careful. It was really nerve-racking, and that’s part of the reason why I went to do my warm-up – I couldn’t bear to stay there sat on my seat!

“I think in the end we deserved the win. We have been working hard since last year, where we were so close to reaching the final. I think we’ve improved as a squad. This year, it’s a step forward and it’s a great feeling.”

Team News

Manchester United: Wayne Rooney and Namanja Vidic who missed the Barcelona tie could return. Patrice Evra is also set for a comeback after suffering an head injury in that game.

Westham :Ljungberg could make a return after suffering an injury at Sunderland.

Players to Watch :

Manchester United: Wayne Rooney comes back after an thigh injury.

Westham :Top scorer Dean Ashton is on form. He’s scored in his last match against Newcastle.

Manchester United vs Barcelona (Review)

Manchester United

1 - 1

Barcelona

Paul Scholes Goals

I know that great feeling. I had it once. 9 years back. Throughout the match I was biting my nails in nervousness. And when the final whistle can I felt like Some weight has just been offloaded from my chest. Hooooooo………….
Atmosphere at Old Trafford was terrific,. Fans displayed their message “BELIEVE” with red and white cards in their hands. Believing was what united had to do. Believing that they are going to Moscow. After some dire performance in the league and last week at Champions league, United had to play better. The support from fans was exactly what the players needed. Every tackle, every attack, were applauded by the supporters .
The match started with an attack by Barcelona. Leonel Messi cut in from the wing to the box, fouled by Scholes and it was It almost looked like a penalty. It was pretty much sure that the absence of Nemanja Vidic would make the defence look shaky. But Instead it was a well disciplined show from the central defence pair of Rio and Brown. And Rio was the better of the two with a near perfect performance. Hargreaves did well in the right back position. But two other players deserve a very special mention. Tevez and Park. They were running all time, tackling ,and winning balls in key areas, and holding up the ball for more support to come. But Rooney was sorely missed. His tough and solid presence was lacking in very attack United put together.
But it was Paul scholes who scored the only one goal. The same player who missed the final 9 years ago with a suspension in the semi’s can now play his first ever Champions League Final. He had been guaranteed a place in the startnig line up by sir Alex If United make it to the final this season. His goal reminded me of the Paul Scholes of some years back. Collected a looses pass from Zambrotta, outside the box and fired it home. Typical Paul Scholes. I love this player like no one other.
Barcelona did their fair share of attacks too. There were two shots by deco just shaved the post and Messi creating problems always in the right wing.In the dying minutes Henry found himself unmarked, while a corner kick came staright at him. But his header was straight toward Van Der Sar. A Barcelona goal looked inevitable every time Messi went forward, but the United defence was up to it, to secure an All English final.
